  5.                         TOOLS OF THE TRADE
  6.  
  7. Antique Imagery distributes clip art samples as SHAREWARE.  This means
  8. you may try-before-you-buy and may share these samples with friends,
  9. use them in your business, or modify as desired during an evaluation
  10. period.  The SHAREWARE marketing concept allows users to evaluate
  11. software products and then decide to either REGISTER the copy or
  12. DISCONTINUE using it. If, after a 30 day evaluation, you DO wish use
  13. these images, we require a $15 (+ $3 S/H) registration fee per disk.
  14. To register simply fill in the form at the bottom of this document and
  15. return to the address below.  Upon registration you will receive
  16.  
  17.      1) A free registration disk of your choice.
  18.      2) A catalogue of available disks and image collections.
  19.      3) Recommendations for image viewing and editing programs.
  20.      4) Notification when new disks/libraries become available.
  21.  
  22. All Images captured from original documents on a Super VGA
  23. monitor using 256 grays. This means you may use them with Paint
  24. programs, Windows, etc. An image that fills the standard VGA
  25. display (640 X 480 pixels) will print out on a 300 dpi printer at
  26. only about 2-1/8" X 1-5/8". When working with graphic images you
  27. need to remember that the display (Monitor) usually has a much
  28. LOWER resolution than the printer, hence the image will appear
  29. LARGER on the monitor. You must have a VGA monitor (or better), a
  30. "paint program", image viewer or desktop publishing package to
  31. see or use these images on-screen. Typical laser printers print
  32. at 300 dpi, so the enclosed files are well suited for use on a
  33. laser printer, but any graphics-capable printer will do. The
  34. files are high resolution so you may enlarge, shrink or distort
  35. the images with good results. The shareware files represent
  36. sample members from our various image libraries.

  38. FILE NAMES describe the contents: Hammer03 is a hammer of some sort;
  39. Gun12 is a gun; Bike15 is a bike, etc. A printed catalogue of the
  40. various collections and disk file names is available to registered
  41. users.

  43. Unless otherwise indicated all distribution disks  are supplied on DOS
  44. formatted 1.44 (high density) 3-1/2 diskettes, in the popular "PCX"
  45. file format, 10 images per disk. You will need to use software
  46. capable of viewing and manipulating PCX files. Other file formats
  47. available are TIF and GIF.  Besides using MS DOS formatted disks, we
  48. can supply files on high density MAC format disks as well.

  50. Each DISK in our collection is called a volume, and contains 10
  51. individual image files. Each VOLUME is a grouping of similar images
  52. (Hammers, Vises, etc.) Each LIBRARY is a set of volumes (Tools of the
  53. Trade, Home Arts, etc.) Typically, a LIBRARY has at least 10 disks and
  54. a minimum of 100 images.

  100. Note that the files supplied as shareware could be SMALLER in size
  101. than their typical reg. disk counterparts.  When we distribute the
  102. files via online services or BBS's the files are sometimes down sized
  103. to allow a smaller distribution file. Our registered versions of the
  104. same files may be somewhat larger overall. Registered distribution
  105. disks are NOT zipped.

  109. ZIP FILES
  110.  
  111. Online services and BBS's which honor the SHAREWARE concept often use
  112. ZIP files for storage and distribution.  These ZIPs are special kinds
  113. of files which were created using a utility called PKZIP (tm, PKWARE,
  114. Inc.) This great utility allows a person to combine any number of
  115. individual files in a compressed manner within a single file.  When a
  116. user wants to use files contained within a ZIP he/she simply UNZIP's
  117. the ZIP file and the original files pop out, good as new. It's usually
  118. easy to identify these compressed files because the file's name ends
  119. with "ZIP".  A Zip file is not executable an must be UNZIPPED before
  120. the originals can be used.

  122. We often send out files named "IMAGRY1.ZIP" or "TOOLS2.ZIP". (I know,
  123. it's spelled rong!)   These ZIPs contain the individual "PCX" image
  124. files along with a README file and misc. other stuff. To EXTRACT files
  125. from a ZIP you can use PKUNZIP, also from PKWARE.  If you're working
  126. on a file named IMAGRY1.ZIP the basic command to extract the
  127. individual files would be PKUNZIP IMAGRY1
  128.  
  129. At that point the files contained within IMAGRY1.ZIP would hop out
  130. onto your disk (hard disk, hopefully).  If PKUNZIP is located in a
  131. directory named C:\UTIL and your Antique Imagery disk is in drive A:
  132. you'd need to do the following commands to unZip the files.

  140. If you DO NOT HAVE the file named PKUNZIP.EXE  you will NOT be able to
  141. unZip a Zip file.  It's important to have this utility and we suggest
  142. you order a copy for $25 from the address below.  (Note that our
  143. registered disks are NOT shipped zipped.)   Get the Zip utilities from

  150. of PKZIP and PKUNZIP for evaluation purposes.

  157. sorts and when the CD ROM market settles out we'll offer images on CD

  230. find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
  231. commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes finding software

  238. Users of Antique Imagery's image files must accept this disclaimer of
  239. warranty: "Everything is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all
  240. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the
  241. warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The
  242. author assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential,
  243. which may result from the use of these images."

  245. These samples are shareware and are provided at no charge to the user
  246. for evaluation. The essence of "user-supported" software is to provide
  247. personal computer users with quality software without high prices, and
  248. yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue to develop new
  249. products.  If you find these images useful and find that you are using
  250. them after a reasonable trial period of 30 days, you must make a
  251. registration payment to Antique Imagery.  The registration fee will
  252. license one copy for use on any one computer at any one time.  You
  253. must treat this software just like a book.  An example is that this
  254. software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved
  255. from one computer location to another, so long as there is no
  256. possibility of it being used at one location while it's being used at
  257. another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different people at the
  258. same time.

  261. Anyone distributing Antique Imagery's files for remuneration must
  262. first contact us for authorization. This authorization will no doubt
  263. be granted to distributors recognized by the ASP as adhering to its
  264. guidelines for shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin
  265. offering these images upon authorization.

  267. You are encouraged to pass a copy of these files along to your friends
  268. for evaluation.  Please ask them to register their copy if they find
  269. them useful.
